A US judge has ordered Mark Meadows, a former chief of staff to Donald Trump, and other former top aides to the former president to testify before a federal grand jury investigating the assault of January 6, 2021 to the United States Capitol, the television network said on Friday abc.
The grand jury is investigating a failed attempt by Trump and his allies to overturn the results of the 2020 election, one of two investigations into the former president led by special counsel Jack Smith.
The former president faces other investigations in Georgia and New York.
Citing multiple sources, abc reported that US Judge Beryl Howell, in an order sealed last week, denied Trump’s request for executive privilege for Meadows and other former aides, including former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe.
The former advisers also included former deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, former senior Department of Homeland Security official Ken Cuccinelli, and advisers Stephen Miller, Nick Luna and John McEntee, it reported. abc.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did lawyers for Trump, Meadows and Miller. Reuters he could not immediately contact the other former advisers or their lawyers.
