Because of this, and in response to a question on Twitter about how the game’s name came to be, a former Rare employee shared the reason that will surely surprise many.

As you can see, it was Kev Bayliss who confirmed that the title for the SNES was known as “The Country Project” during the development. This as a result of the fact that Rare was located in the middle of the field, or country in English.
Thanks to this, and once it was time to give the gorilla installment a title, Bayliss stated that Nintendo simply decided to keep ‘Country’ in the name to let donkey kong country was born.
