Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Jan has petitioned the High Court in Islamabad for bail after receiving a “terrorism” arrest notice after “threatening” a female judge and senior police officers in a public demonstration.
This decision by his legal team, made up of lawyers Babar Awan and Faisal Chaudhry, comes after the former prime minister was registered under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Law, which implies “punishment for acts of terrorism”, in regarding his comments at his rally in Islamabad on Saturday.
The petition, as reported by the Pakistani DAWN news portal, notes that Jan is “targeted by the ruling PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) for his courageous criticism and extremely bold and forceful stance against corruption and corrupt politicians.”
In this way, the lawyers of the former Pakistani prime minister argue that “under false accusations”, the Government is trying to “disrupt” his party, while defending that he has no criminal record and has never been convicted, according to the portal of ARY news.
Khan’s supporters gathered in Islamabad on Sunday night after it became known that he would be arrested for the words he spoke during his speech in the Pakistani capital, where he asked for the support of the Army after denouncing police abuses against his main adviser, Shahbaz Gill, who has come to ensure that he was the victim of sexual abuse in custody in a case of alleged sedition.
Jan hinted during his speech that the police were following “orders from above” in their alleged torture of Gill. “Every time we’ve asked them they’ve told us that they weren’t to blame for anything, that they were kicked in the ass to get them to follow orders,” he said.
During his speech, the former prime minister also reiterated that he had been the victim of an international conspiracy, with the collusion of the security forces, which led to the motion of censure that cost him his job last April.

The current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shebhaz Sharif, is going through a serious political crisis triggered by the motion of censure of his predecessor, Jan, as well as a moment of uncertainty due to the lack of liquidity, for which he has to convince the International Monetary Fund ( IMF) to release funds and tackle the economic situation of the former British colony.
