Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shot and wounded

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has been attacked this Friday by an unidentified man while he was giving an election speech in western Japan, according to local authorities.

Abe, 67, has been injured and has been rushed to a hospital near the Kintetsu Yamato-Saidaiji station, in the city of Nara, in the southwest of the Japanese country, according to the newspaper ‘Yomiuri Shimbun’.

A reporter from the aforementioned newspaper has detailed that he heard a similar sound of a shot, after which the former prime minister would have collapsed and fallen to the ground.


The former prime minister was participating in an electoral act of the Liberal Democratic Party for the elections to Parliament on July 10, according to ‘The Mainichi’.

Police have arrested a suspect and have launched an investigation into what happened.
