Former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe files a complaint after receiving a letter with a death threat

March 29 () –

The Le Havre City Council and its mayor, former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, have filed two complaints this Wednesday after the courier service received a letter with a death threat against the politician.

The envelope, addressed to Philippe, contained the message “Allah is great” and contained a whitish powder, although the security forces have ruled out, for now, that it is a toxic element, the Franceinfo chain has collected.

According to the City Council of Le Havre, in Normandy, there are no indications that this threat is linked to the mobilization against the approved pension reform. However, investigations to determine the messenger, as well as his motive, are still ongoing.

The French Court of Justice appointed Philippe, Prime Minister between 2017 and July 2020, in October 2022, as an “assisted witness”, halfway between a mere declarant and a defendant, in its investigation into the management of the French Government during the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The investigation was opened after several people filed lawsuits for the lack of protective measures and guidelines on the use of masks, among other issues. In October 2020, the Police carried out several searches in the homes and offices of the then Minister of Health, Oliver Véran, and of Philippe himself.
