After an intense day of work, the Ibero-American foreign ministers prepared the documents with the agreements that the heads of state and government will sign, during the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit, in Santo Domingo.
As reported by the Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, in arelease, The documents that dignitaries will see on Saturday include a proposal for ‘Critical Path on Food Security, Inclusive and Sustainable in Ibero-America’, which refers to the strategy to precisely achieve food security. The ‘Ibero-American Environmental Charter’which consolidates the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution and seeks to contribute to protecting the habitat and the oceans.
Likewise, the ‘Ibero-American Charter of Principles and Rights in Digital Environments’prepared to guarantee the exercise of fundamental rights within the framework of digital transformation, and which promotes the principles that States must have when implementing their national legislation to develop public policies.
The text also states that, in addition to these documents, the ‘III Quadrennial Action Plan for Ibero-American Cooperation (III PACCI 2023-2026)’which aims to establish the guidelines to promote compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
Andrés Allamand, Ibero-American Secretary General, affirmed that “the Ibero-American Community demonstrates at the Santo Domingo Summit its full validity and capacity to generate agreements through consensus, propose answers to global problems and manage a useful cooperation system, as well as forge alliances that They allow us to join forces.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that the Pro-Tempore Secretariat, during the preparatory activities for the summit, organized 13 ministerial meetings, among which the meetings of the ministers of Finance and Economy, Agriculture and the Environment stand out, and forums with themes keys to the region.
The commitments made during the Ibero-American Summit, whose motto is “Together for a just and sustainable Ibero-America”, will be reflected in the Declaration of Santo Domingo.
The organizers of the event, which began on Friday and ends on Saturday and which brings together 22 countries from Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Andorra, have confirmed the participation of 14 presidents and vice presidents. The great absentees will be the leaders of Brazil and Mexico.
