For the second consecutive year, the University of Tarapacá leads the awarding of Regular FONDECYT projects, throughout the North of Chile

The National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) is the main agency in charge of promoting the development of research in Chile, through various competitive financing projects. In this line, the main source of financing for basic research, and one of the most competitive projects at the national level, is the line of FONDECYT projects, with regular FONDECYT being the main one of all of them.

On this occasion, and for the second consecutive year, the University of Tarapacá led the awarding of projects throughout the north of the country, awarding 12 regular projects, led by researchers from our University, evidencing an increase of 20% compared to the year. 2021.

On this occasion, the awarded areas corresponded to the Study Groups of: Philosophy (1); Higher Education (3); Biology 3 (1); History (2); Chemistry 1 (1); Theoretical and Experimental Physics (1); Anthropology and Archeology (1); Arts and Architecture (1); and Mathematics (1). With these new awards, the University of Tarapacá adds more than 70 researchers who are leading and executing a FONDECYT project in our Institution, in all areas of knowledge.

In this regard, the Rector of our House of Studies, Dr. Emilio Rodríguez Ponce, pointed out: “this is very good news for the Institution, since it reflects the result of an intentional effort to make the university more complex, making it a highly relevant actor in the development of national research, as consistently evidenced by various international research rankings, which place us in the top positions among universities in the country and in Latin America. These results are particularly notable if the relative size of the Institution is considered, demonstrating, with the example, that a small regional state university, and from an extreme zone, can make great transformations when the commitment is combined with the talent of human teams, trained at the highest level, as are the academics of the University of Tarapacá”.

Finally, the General Director of Research and Innovation added: “These results consolidate the University of Tarapacá as the reference institution in basic research in the entire North of Chile, as well as in the entire South Central Andean Macroregion, since it concentrates the higher rate of scientific productivity (scientific articles published and external projects awarded) per Equivalent Full Time. These results have greatly increased the notoriety of the Institution in the scientific community, turning us into a center of interest that has allowed us to incorporate top-level academics from all corners of the world, in addition to opening hundreds of opportunities for national and international collaboration. international, for our academics and postgraduate students”.
