Consumer trends change and evolve over the years. As proof of the above, we have the curious case of television, which has more difficulties in retaining the interest of the audience. Now, streaming services are the new kings when it comes to entertainment.

Although the above may seem like a bold statement, the truth is that the American public watches more content on platforms such as Netflix and Disney + than through cable television, or at least that is what new data from the Nielsen company suggests (via Variety).

According to the report, July marked the first month in history in which streaming services surpassed pay TV audience levels in the United States. Specifically, 34.8% of total consumption was made through these applications, while cable television represented 34.4% of total viewing time.

This is the first time that platforms like Amazon Prime Video. Hulu, etc. outperform cable TV, although we must remember that they previously managed to outperform broadcast TV audiences on US soil.

What were the most popular streaming services in the United States?

Despite recent controversies, Netflix had the most viewing in the United States with 8.0%, which represents a record number for the service. Its success was made possible thanks, in large part, to the good reception of Season 4 of stranger things, which had 18 billion minutes of viewing during June. Also, productions like Virgin River, The Umbrella AcademyY, The Sea Beast Y The Gray Man they were very popular.

Right away we find YouTube with a 7.3% share, while Hulu achieved a record 3.6% share made possible by projects like Only Murders in the Building Y Bear. Prime Video got a 3.0% view boosted by the new season of TheBoys and the premiere of The Terminal List.
