June 30 () –
FC Barcelona footballer and French international Jules Koundé spoke out on Sunday, the day of the first round of legislative elections in his country, against voting for the far-right party National Rally, “based on hatred of one’s neighbour and misinformation.”
National Group, led by Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella, starts as a favorite in the early legislative elections this Sunday, declared on June 9 by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and in which the formation aspires to consolidate its progress registered in the last European elections.
In a message posted on his social media account X, Koundé believes that “the extreme right has never led a country towards more freedoms, justice and coexistence” and does not believe “that it ever will.”
“I see a party founded on hatred of its neighbours, on misinformation and whose words seek to stigmatise and divide us,” said the 25-year-old French international.
For this reason, Koundé understands that the National Group “is not the solution” to the problems his country is going through, as he has made known in a message, which he does not want to frame “as a lesson” but as “a personal opinion so that people do with it what you want.”
Koundé has indicated in any case that today is “important for France and for its future”, in which, given the current context “voting is both a duty and a right.”
“The strength of democracy is that every voice counts and everyone is free to give their opinion,” he stressed.
