The Ukrainian authorities have accused the russian troops to destroy the dam of the hydroelectric power station of Nova Kakhovkain the river dnieper60 kilometers from the city of Kherson.
The Southern Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported the destruction of the infrastructure and has indicated that it is investigating the magnitude of the damage, as well as the speed and amount of water that would affect the probable flood zones.
At least 80 towns would be at risk of flash flooding, creating a humanitarian disaster and forcing Ukraine to rethink its strategy.
Moscow has reported that the dam has collapsed “due to damage”, so the nearby territories are being flooded.” “It was quiet at night. The dam did not hold, a support collapsed and the flooding began,” a source told the Russian agency TASS.
