11 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Five soldiers have died this Saturday in a shooting that occurred at the Evangelista de Cagayan military base, in Ciudad de Oro, in the Philippines, as reported by the Army.
One of the deceased, Johmar Villabito, began shooting at other soldiers until he was finally killed by Mark Anthony Aguinid and Josiah Estrada, according to the newspaper ‘Phil Star’.
The incident occurred at dawn and for the moment the names of the victims have not been published, explained the spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division, Francisco Garello Jr.
“Four of our soldiers have died and another one has been wounded. The suspect used an M-16 rifle and shot the victims while they were sleeping,” Garello Jr. has indicated in statements to the press.
The victims were stationed at the 4th Infantry Division Service Headquarters under the command of Major General Wilbur Mamawag. At the moment, the attacker’s motive has not been disclosed, although the Philippine press speculates that a possible sentimental relationship was involved.
