Five people killed and 35 injured after fuel tanker explodes in southern Libya

Aug. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least five people have died and another 35 have been injured this Monday in southern Libya after a tanker loaded with oil exploded due to a fire after a group of people tried to get fuel from inside, according to authorities have confirmed.

The spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Service, Osama Ali, has indicated that the event has taken place in the Bint Baya area and has added that several of the injured have been transferred to a hospital in the city of Sabha, without ruling out that the balance of victims may increase in the coming hours.

Local sources quoted by the Libyan daily ‘Al Wasat’ have indicated that a group of people approached the tanker truck to fill several bottles of fuel, which caused a fire and the subsequent explosion of the vehicle.

Unity Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibé has ordered the authorities to give care to the victims and has ordered medical specialists to be sent to the area from the capital, Tripoli, to support the efforts. “We are closely following this tragedy,” he said in a message on his account on the social network Facebook.

The south of Libya is suffering from a fuel supply crisis that has caused prices to rise on the black market, amid the political crisis and the closure of several oil fields for weeks due to disputes between the conflicting administrations in the country. African.
