At least five earthquakes with magnitudes between 4.4 and 5.5 on the Richter scale have been recorded off the east coast of Taiwan, as confirmed this Monday by the Central Meteorological Administration, with no damage or injuries reported so far. moment.

The strongest of the earthquakes occurred around five in the afternoon (11:00 Spanish peninsular time), with an epicenter 26 kilometers east of Hualien county and a seismic depth of 10 kilometers.

After this, four others have taken place just several minutes apart, all with their epicenter in the municipality of Shoufeng, in the aforementioned county. The Central Meteorological Administration has activated the alert for disasters in this area, as reported by the state news agency CNA.

Likewise, tremors have been detected in Yilan county – where they have reached level four on Taiwan's intensity scale of seven -, in Taichung, Nantou county and Changhua county, where the tremors had an intensity of three.

These earthquakes occurred weeks after an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan on April 3, causing 17 deaths and more than 1,100 injuries. Since this earthquake, the most powerful recorded in Taiwan in the last 25 years, 935 earthquakes and aftershocks have occurred.
