The Armenian Emergencies Ministry has updated the balance of victims affected by the explosion that occurred on Sunday in a pyrotechnic products warehouse within a wholesale market in the country’s capital, Yerevan, to five people dead.
Of the five fatalities, four of them have been identified as Anahit Mkhitaryan, Misak Margaryan, Gemma Nazaryan and Gayane Avetisyan, according to a statement from the ministry itself.
Firefighting and search operations are ongoing. At the scene of the events, 185 rescuers participate in search and firefighting operations, as well as the participation of twenty tankers, a dozen trucks, five tractors, three cranes and seven additional teams from the municipality.
The explosion occurred around 1:20 p.m. local time (two hours less in mainland Spain) and has caused serious damage to the Surmalu market, according to the National Crisis Management Center in a statement collected by ArmenPress.
Shutdown tasks seem very difficult. “The operational situation is quite complicated, work is being done to extinguish the fire and rescue people,” added the director of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia, Arsen Gasparyan, in statements to the Russian agency TASS. .
