“The story of The Last of Us takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a strong-willed survivor, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. “What starts out as a small job soon turns into a brutal and harrowing journey, as they must both traverse the United States and depend on each other for survival.”
The cast of the series is completed by Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence. Also appearing on screen will be Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the voices of Elli and Joel, respectively, in The Last of Us video game franchise.
As for the script, it is in charge of Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, creative director of The Last of Us. As Druckmann himself has acknowledged, The Last of Us series will adapt the first video game, but some episodes will be “deviated a lot” due to the change of medium. On the other hand, in the executive production, the presence of Carolyn Strauss stands out, who led HBO during the years in which series such as The Sopranos, The Wire and Six Feet Under were broadcast. She has also produced Game of Thrones and Chernobyl.
For those interested in the video game, The Last of Us Part I debuted on PS3, later a remastering was released for PS4 and a month ago a remake to PS5. This latest edition will also be available on PC at a date yet to be announced.
