Philippine President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., known as ‘Bongbong’, was sworn in as the country’s 17th president on Thursday at a ceremony held at the National Museum in the capital, Manila.
“I, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and diligently discharge my duties as President of the Philippines and will uphold its Constitution, enforce its laws, be fair to all people, and dedicate myself to the service of the country. May God be with you.” happy with me”, declared Marcos Jr accompanied by his wife Liza and their children Sandro, Simon and Vincent.
Philippine President Marcos praised the government of his father, dictator of the Philippines for more than 20 years, in his inauguration speech: “I met a man who said that little had been achieved since independence and he changed it.”
The National Museum of the Philippines has already been the scene of other presidential inaugurations, such as those of Manuel Luis Quezon, in 1935; José Paciano Laurel, in 1943, and Manuel Roxas, in 1946.
‘Bongbong’ Marcos, 64, won the elections after winning 59 percent of the vote and with the promise of improving relations with China, something that could lead to an increase in tension with its historical ally, the United States.
