The PP’s outstretched hand to the far right in Spain has brought to light the contradiction of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whose party applies a ‘cordon sanitaire’ in Europe to the group that includes his Vox partners, with whom it maintains municipal agreements even after Santiago Abascal’s break at the regional level over the distribution of migrant minors who have arrived alone in the Canary Islands.
While Feijóo protects his alliances and avoids entering into a hand-to-hand combat with the leader of the far right, the European People’s Party marginalizes the group that includes Vox, which has isolated itself with the decision to replace the far-right Giorgia Meloni – whitewashed in Brussels by the Popular Party – and the Polish ultra-nationalists of Law and Justice (PiS) with the radicals of Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National, Matteo Salvini’s La Liga or Viktor Orbán.
