Federal judge gives a week to show part of Trump's residence search warrant

A federal judge in Florida has given the US Department of Justice a week to offer its version of the documents from the authorized search of former President Donald Trump’s residence.

“I am not prepared to determine that the affidavit should be fully sealed,” Justice Bruce Reinhart told the Justice Department during a hearing in West Palm Beach, referring to the request by media organizations and others to release the affidavit. sworn.

Among the media that advocate the publication of the document are Associated Presstelevision networks ABC, CBS, NBC Y as well as newspaper companies New York Times, Washington PostDow Jones & Company, EW Scripps Company, and McClatchy.

During the controversial authorized raid at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago resort on August 8, FBI agents seized 11 boxes of classified government documents that the former president had brought to his residence after leaving the White House in January 2021.

Trump and his allies have denounced the search as a “weaponization” of law enforcement, and congressional Republicans are threatening to investigate the Justice Department and the FBI when they take control of Congress.

In the days since the media first filed a request to open the documents, others have joined the motion.

In a filing Wednesday night, the Florida Center for Government Accountability argued that the “public importance of the case” favors disclosure of the document.

Another person pushing for the affidavit to be released is Andy Martin, a US Senate candidate from New Hampshire and a writer who is requesting access to the document as part of his research on a book titled “A Psychological Study of President Donald Trump.” .
