Fedegán responds to Petro for agrarian reform: this says the Government

In the last few hours, the discussion on the purchase of land by the Government from Fedegan has been taking place. On February 22, President Gustavo Petro stated that he is convinced that an agrarian reform can be carried out in the country, taking into account that it is one of the points to be developed in the Havana Peace Agreement.

In his turn, the president, at the launch of the CampeSENA program, stated that the agrarian issue is something that has accompanied Colombia for better and for worse. However, he indicated that something that has cost the country is land tenure, a fact that “has been forgotten by all governments.”

Land tenure is absurdly irrational in Colombia, our fertile lands are dedicated to intensive grazing, practically nothing, unproductive. They are in the hands of a social sector that actually comes from feudalism and pre-modernity, which has not been able to release the land, but rather has been transformed into something worse.”, said the president.

Likewise, he stated that one of the most powerful unions, which concentrates different people on Colombian soil, has publicly stated that it will sell 3 million hectares to the state. “On Monday we will meet with this union, because this proposal is very important,” said Petro.

I hope that Fedegán’s proposal is fulfilled, it is for now, not for 20 years from now. If there is an offer, there is a possibility on the way that I hope is not closed simply because it was one more hoax. The State has to carry out an agrarian reform without fear, the first point of Agreement must be fulfilled”, expressed the president.

Turning his gaze towards livestock, a sector that signed the sale of land with the Government last October, José Félix Lafaurie, president of Fedegán, stated that the union “does not sign an agreement to not fulfill it”. Thus he stated that “The president can continue to count on the certainty of our commitment, because we ranchers are complying and will continue to comply.either”.

Among the figures given by the union, it is estimated that Through the Federation, 502 offers for a total of 303,964 have already been received and processed before the National Land Agency (ANG).which are in the feasibility qualification process.

In addition, they ensure that 349 farmers have made offers directly to the AGN“an amount that the Agency has not revealed, which allows us to estimate, however, that the basket of offers can easily reach 400,000 hectares”, they affirm.

Finally, Lafaurie concluded that “This is not an easy process, but we ranchers will continue to comply, in a joint effort with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Land Agency”.
