FBI Searches Pence’s Address in Investigation of Classified Documents

The FBI conducted a consented search of the Indianapolis residence of former US Vice President Mike Pence on Friday after classified documents were discovered at his home last month, it told Reuters a Justice Department official.

The record comes just weeks after Pence’s attorney, Greg Jacobs, notified the National Archives in a Jan. 18 letter. the discovery of records with classified markings, which were then turned over to the FBI.

The inspection also goes public as former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden face investigations by two special attorneys into the withholding of classified documents.

Special counsel Jack Smith is investigating whether Trump or his associates may have obstructed the Justice Department’s investigation into his retention of government documentsseveral hundred of which were marked as classified, after he left the White House in January 2021.

On August 8, the FBI carried out an authorized search by a court at the ex-president’s Florida estate, where he collected some 13,000 records, some 100 of which contained classified trademarks.

Separately, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsel Robert Hur in January after Biden’s legal team revealed it had discovered classified documents in november at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a think tank at the University of Pennsylvania.

Biden had an office there after he was vice president under Barack Obama and before his presidential election. Since then, too additional documents found at the ruler’s residence in Wilmington. A third search of Biden’s Delaware beach home earlier this month turned up no additional documents.
