The best video games of the year

Elden Ring

Starting with one of the biggest releases of the year: Elden Ring, with enormous expectations to come from the minds of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George RR Martin, icons of video games, movies, and television. It was awarded the best game of the year at the Game Awards and with perfect marks in media such as Metacritic or IGN, for many it will be a timeless game that is positioned as one of the best in history.

The way in which it takes up the open world, the difficulties of an unknown environment and the fantasy formula of “souls like” games

God Of War: Ragnarok

Another of the great releases, and favorites of the year, was God of War: Ragnarök, the continuation of the acclaimed PlayStation exclusive saga and which gives a closing arc to Kratos, his son and the confrontation with the Norse gods. Multi-nominated for awards and with very high ratings from specialized critics. A complete story, with action in its proper measure, a soundtrack that accompanies each moment of the story and characters that change, evolve and with dubbing that transmit emotions.

Horizon Forbidden West

PlayStation, after delaying its AAA releases from 2021 and betting on this year, also released the sequel to Horizon, with Forbidden West, this role-playing game bets on a combination of the old with technology, in which a warrior from a tribe he faces animals/machine in search of an artificial intelligence. Visually it is spectacular and the open world gives it a feeling of exploration and discovery. A kind of Legend of Zelda Breath of the wild, but from PlayStation.

In addition to these mega launches, some titles surprised by their stories or by the narrative resource.

A Plague Tale Requiem

A Plague Tale Requiem not only managed to sneak into the game of the year nominees for its detailed landscapes that provide views and details of a France in the midst of the Black Death, but also demonstrates how entertaining stealth games can be. How to combine reality with fantasy and alchemy.

As Dusk Falls

As Dusk Falls, is another of the narrative games that fans unexpectedly recognized and followed. This game of decisions allows you to delve into the plot of an American family that, due to circumstance, finds itself entangled in a crime. Despite not being a game full of action, the way the story is told, how you influence it and how each decision impacts its development, allows you to know the result of your actions and gives a very high replayability when trying to discover all the results of your decisions.

High on Life

High on Life arrived at the end of the year as a release outside of the regular timeframes of video games. From the creators of Rick & Morty, this shooting game combines bizarre characters, weapons that have personality and a story that, despite being simple, humor, the player’s interaction with the other characters and breaking the fourth wall so that the game speaks directly to whoever is in control, it’s refreshing. A nerve, criticism and even satire of current video games.
