Favorable conditions for El Niño in the next 6 months

The NOAA Climate Prediction Center has warned this Friday that there are favorable weather conditions for an El Niño event to occur in the next six months.

“While we are still in a neutral ENSO (Niño/Southern Oscillation) phase –when there is no El Niño or La Niña– there is a 62% chance that El Niño develops sometime between May and July. This comes after almost two continuous years of La Niña,” says NOAA. it’s a statement.

The El Niño-Southern Oscillation is a weather pattern defined by sea surface temperature and precipitation deviations from normal in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. that can influence weather and climate patterns on a global scale.

El Niño is the warm phase of ENSO when ocean temperatures are warmer and precipitation is higher than normal in the central to eastern Pacific Ocean.

NOAA scientists will continue to monitor the potential development of El Niño and will publish the next monthly update on May 11, 2023.
