Drones are surveying croplands from the air to automatically detect the presence of weeds or other threats. It may sound like a scene from science fiction, but it is already happening for real, although for now only in some experimental agricultural fields. For example, a group at the University of Bonn in Germany is working on it, with the aim of modernizing agriculture by equipping it with everything that robotics and computing can offer. The most recent study carried out here is the work of a team led by Hugo Storm. It is entitled “Research priorities to leverage smart digital technologies for sustainable crop production.” And it has been published in the academic journal European Journal of Agronomy.
