He National Museum of Art of China opened a new exhibition featuring works by well-known Chinese artist Huang Yongyu. The exhibition includes 159 pieces from the master’s later years, offering viewers a glimpse into his continuing artistic endeavors, which remained intact until his death last year at the age of 99.
Huang Yongyu was a prominent Chinese artist known for his skill in traditional Chinese painting and for his distinctive style that combined elements of ink and color. He was born on February 11, 1924 in Hunan, China and from a young age he showed exceptional talent in art. He graduated from the Hangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1947 and began to excel in the creation of works that combined tradition with a modern and personal vision.

Throughout his career, Huang Yongyu was noted for his mastery of painting flowers, birds and animals, as well as historical and literary subjects. His style was characterized by strong, expressive lines and a vibrant color palette that reflected his deep knowledge of the Chinese painting tradition.
In addition to his technical skill, the famous artist was recognized for his ability to capture the essence and spirit of his subjects, whether in serene landscapes or animated portraits. Over the years, Huang Yongyu received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to art and was widely acclaimed both in his home country and internationally.
Huang Yongyu passed away in 2021 at the age of 99. Behind him he has left an important legacy for the history of contemporary Chinese art. Today, his works are recognized and highly valued for their technical quality, conceptual depth, and the way they transmit China’s rich cultural tradition through a modern and distinctive visual language.
