( Spanish) – Former President Evo Morales began a new day on Thursday in the so-called March to Save Bolivia, which he has led since Tuesday against the Government of Luis Arce.
“Today we will arrive at Patacamaya, together with thousands of sisters and brothers, who accompany us with a single objective, to fight for our beloved Bolivia, for life, democracy and revolution,” said Morales in a message on social network X.
Local media had reported that the former president had decided to abandon the march he himself had called to avoid the case being linked to his quest for re-election, as the government is considering.
The mobilization aims to reach the Government Palace and as it progresses, different social sectors have joined, Morales said Thursday in a message recorded on the way and published on his social networks.
“After the meeting with the People’s General Staff, the Unity Pact and social organizations, it was decided that Evo will continue marching until he reaches the seat of government,” his party, the Movement for Socialism – Political Instrument for the Sovereignty of the Peoples (MAS-IPSP), announced on Wednesday.
The former president called for the movement to make 16 demands of the government and to express his rejection of the referendum proposed by Arce to ask citizens whether they would agree or not to extend the presidential reelection period, something that Morales believes seeks to curb his aspirations to run for the executive office again in 2025.
