Eve exhibits its flying taxi model for the first time

Others want to take flight

The race to take to the air began a couple of years ago. In 2020, during the CES technology fair, Hyundai and Uber presented a prototype of a vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flying taxi.

In it This year’s CES the Chinese company, Xpeng Aeroht presented its Modular Flying Car model, which even left the ground in a small takeoff test; however, nothing more could be seen about its movement capacity.

In Eve’s case, it is part of a group of startups around the world that are developing battery-powered aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically to transport travelers on short urban journeys, allowing them to avoid traffic.

Eve’s progress

The first prototype of Eve is equipped with electric motors, but has no cockpit or pilot. The final aircraft will have capacity for four passengers and a pilot.

“This prototype is completely remote so we can test the aerodynamics, start flying and then do what we call transition flight from vertical to horizontal,” Bordais said.

Eve hopes to achieve certification in 2026, having applied to Brazil’s civil aviation regulator in 2022.

“This is a first step towards learning and continuing to move forward,” he added. “There are challenges. It is not trivial. We are at the limits of technology and aeronautics, and this moment of testing is essential.”
