The Greek MEP eva kailiaccused in an alleged bribery scheme in the European Parliament linked to Qatar and Morocco, “did not know anything about the money they found in his house” and “I always vote according to my conscience”says his lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos in an interview published today in the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
“Eva Kaili is living a nightmare in prison, a catastrophe because she is innocent. The only person who visited her on Christmas Day was her father,” Dimitrakopoulos told the Milan newspaper.
According to the lawyer, the charges on which she was vice president of the EP “are very vague and are not based on actual circumstances, but solely that the money was found under the same roof that Eva Kaili shared with her partner.”
The parliamentarian is charged with the crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, corruption and money laundering.
“After what she has read in the investigation file, she feels betrayed. Her name was used without her knowledge, before the day of her arrest she did not know anything about the money that was found in the house, the money was not hers or kept it,” he added, in statements collected by efe.

On whether Kaili ever voted in Parliament based on what Giorgi or Panzeri asked, the lawyer asserted that “she always voted according to her conscience, neither Panzeri nor her daughter’s father ever influenced her vote.”
