BRUSSELS, April 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Union has expressed concern about worsening violence, intimidation and destruction of homes by settlers in the West Bank and has called on Israel to “redouble its efforts” to address the situation.

“We urge Israel to redouble its efforts to prevent recurrent settler violence against Palestinians and ensure that perpetrators of crimes are held accountable,” said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell.

Likewise, he recalled that “the settlements are illegal” under International Law and constitute “an obstacle to peace.” “In the current situation, all efforts must be directed at avoiding new tensions and de-escalating,” he added.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also called on Israel this Tuesday to “restore and guarantee” public order and security in the West Bank, where attacks have left at least six Palestinians dead since Friday in “acts.” of revenge” after the death of Israeli teenager Benjamin Achimeir last Friday.
