BRUSSELS, Aug. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The European Union has supported this Thursday the Palestinian NGOs closed by Israel for their alleged links with the terrorist group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), noting that they play an “essential” role.
At a press conference from Brussels, the EU Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, Nabila Massrali, pointed out that the accusations of improper use of European funds “have not been substantiated”, referring to the designation in 2021 of six Palestinian non-governmental organizations as terrorists by Israel, several of which received funds from Brussels.
“The EU will continue to side with International Law and support civil society organizations that play a role in promoting Human Rights and democratic values,” Massrali defended.
Thus, he recalled that European funding for this type of association is an important element to support the two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Israeli forces have raided the headquarters of six Palestinian human rights NGOs in the West Bank early this Thursday and have ordered their closure for alleged links with terrorist organizations.
During the operation, material has been seized, while Israeli soldiers have dispersed several protesters who have thrown stones and Molotov cocktails at the agents, according to the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.
