EU sanctions nine individuals and entities for links to Hamas and Islamic Jihad

BRUSSELS, June 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Union approved sanctions on Friday against nine individuals and entities for their links to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both financially and operationally.

Specifically, it points to three entities linked to Hamas’ finances and which, as front companies, have allowed the Islamist movement, responsible for the unprecedented attack against Israel on October 7, to mobilize funds for it.

The 27 also impose restrictions against Islamic Jihad leader Jamil Yusuf Ahmad Aliyan and three Hamas leaders linked to the Islamic group’s foreign investment activities.

On the operational level, the EU has added to its blacklist Ali Morshed Shirazi, leader of the Iranian Quds Force and head of the Palestinian Branch Office operating from Lebanon, as well as Maher Rebhi Obeid, a member of Hamas’ political leadership since 2010, accused of directing Hamas terrorist operations in the West Bank.

With the passing of this Friday, the European bloc maintains sanctions against 12 people and three entities within the framework of punitive measures against Hamas and Islamic Jihad in response to the October 7 attack.

Adopted in January, the EU sanctions framework against Hamas aims to economically strangle the group and cut off its arms supply. In the same context, the EU is imposing measures against radical settlers responsible for episodes of violence in the West Bank.
