The Estonian authorities have banned more than fifty people linked to Russia from entering the country this Friday, including Patriarch Kirill, the highest representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, for his involvement in serious violations of Human Rights.
The Estonian Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, has indicated that a total of 58 people have entered the country’s ‘black list’, among which are nine “Human Rights violators” related to the sentence of the Russian activist and opposition member Vladimir Kara Mura, sentenced in mid-April to 25 years in prison for various crimes, including high treason.
“Patriarch Kirill is one of the biggest promoters and followers of (Vladimir) Putin’s ideology,” said the minister, who stressed that “he has been justifying the war against Ukraine.”
Tsahkna has also stated that those who support “Russia’s actions in Ukraine are not welcome in Estonia.” “I ask all countries to impose entry restrictions to their countries to those who support Russia’s cruel crimes,” she said, according to information in the newspaper ‘Postimees’.
In September 2022, Estonia announced its intention to propose the inclusion of Patriarch Kirill on the European Union’s sanctions list for his support for Russia’s “genocidal war”.
