Erdogan dismisses an adviser accused of corruption

Sep. 1 () –

The president of the United States, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has dismissed one of his main advisers on Thursday after he was implicated in an alleged corruption scandal.

The two main opposition parties asked the Prosecutor’s Office this week to investigate the suspicions that hung over the adviser, Serkan Taranoglu, and against a former head of the agency that regulates financial markets, Ali Fuat Taskesenlioglu.

Both were singled out on social networks by the mobster Sedat Peker, who from his exile in the United Arab Emirates had accused them of influence peddling and bribery.

The Public Ministry has not yet ruled on the case, but Erdogan has gone ahead and in a meeting with colleagues from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has confirmed Taranoglu’s dismissal, according to sources quoted by the Bloomberg news agency. .

A hypothetical investigation into someone so close to Erdogan would add pressure to the president ahead of the general elections scheduled for mid-2023.
