The president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, declared this Saturday that Syria has entered a “new political and diplomatic reality” with the jihadist and rebel offensive that began ten days ago and that has brought this alliance to the ground in recent hours. gates of the capital, Damascus.

“I hope that Syria will achieve peace in the very near future,” Erdogan added before insisting once again that Ankara “will not tolerate any action that endangers its national security,” referring to the SDF.
“The Syrian lands are saturated with war, blood and tears. Our Syrian brothers and sisters deserve freedom, security and peace in their homeland,” the president stressed in his appearance, reported by the newspaper ‘Cumhuriyet’.
The Turkish president already declared this past Friday his support for the rebel advance after regretting that the Syrian Government “never fully understood the value of the hand we extended to it,” in reference to the now failed Astana peace process of 2017, where Turkey exercised as a mediator with Russia and Iran.
