The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has claimed this Tuesday as an objective in view of his new mandate at the head of the country to establish a “belt of security and peace” around Turkey, especially in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Our goal is to establish this belt, be it from Europe to the Black Sea, from the Caucasus to the Middle East or North Africa,” he said during a speech in which he once again thanked the electorate for the victory in the second round of the presidential elections held on Sunday.
In this sense, he stressed that the true winners of “this marathon of elections” are “Turkish democracy and the nation”, according to information from the state news agency Anatolia.
Erdogan, who has specified that he will evaluate the electoral process “in all its aspects”, has warned that he is aware that the country is going through a “choice of destiny” and has stated that “Anatolian wisdom has once again prevailed over political engineering”. . “Efforts to end politics through terrorism have not borne fruit,” he has asserted.
“All the citizens who consider that they belong to this land have won in these elections”, he has maintained before affirming that “despite all the provocations during the campaign and the propaganda, (…) we have won”.
In this sense, he has applauded that the alliance of parties he leads “has received a second chance at the polls”, while he has qualified that there is a “lack of opposition” in Turkey.
