The Islamist Government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan has ordered this Sunday to block access to the districts of Beyoğlu and Şişli, in Istanbulas well as the metro stations near these neighborhoods, with checkpoints and barricades to prevent the celebration of the Pride march LGTBI.
The Pride events in Istanbul began on June 17 and were to conclude with the parade this Sunday.
Before the march, Turkish authorities closed the Taksim and Şişhane metro stations to prevent any gathering in the city’s Taksim Square, setting up checkpoints, erecting police barricades, and diverting pedestrians along alternative routes.
Faced with these obstacles, the organizers of the march announced that they would gather at various points in the districts of Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş and Kadıköy.
Since the first LGTBI Pride parade in Istanbul in 2003, the Government of the Islamist Erdogan has Most rallies banned, activists arrested and protesters repressed with tear gas and even plastic bullets.
This position has also been adopted by the Faculty of Medicine of the Izzet Baysal University of Bolu, in the north of the country, which has banned the phrase ‘sexual orientation’ of the Hippocratic Oath that will be read at the graduation ceremony tomorrow, Monday.
The decision was made by the dean of the faculty, who considers that “There is no such thing as sexual orientation.” and that “as doctors, they are being used for propaganda.”
“The decision to eliminate the phrase ‘sexual orientation’ from part of the Hippocratic Oath is clearly contrary to the universal ethical values of the medical profession and human rights,” the students responded this Sunday.
Although Homosexuality has been legal in Türkiye since 1858the current Islamist and conservative Government often attacks the LGTBI community, calling him “perverse”.
