In a world in constant evolution, energy efficiency has become a key aspect for companies looking to reduce their operating costs and contribute to a more sustainable future. Colombia is no exception, and currently more than 1,000 national and international companies are implementing cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud and Big Data to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint.
(They create an investment fund to promote energy efficiency).
The organization behind the implementation of these technologies is Azimut Energía, a Colombian company specialized in the development and implementation of energy efficiency strategies and equipment and which has supported such renowned companies as Colgate, Pactia, Conconcreto, Hilton and Colombina to achieve through these tools savings of more than 20% in the value of their energy bills.
Simón Urrego, Commercial Manager of Azimut Energía, explains that each company has different needs in terms of energy. For this reason, they develop personalized management plans based on the requirements of each organization, which include the incorporation of these technologies in which they have invested more than three million dollars throughout their more than 10 years of experience.
One of the most outstanding technological solutions of this Colombian company is the Gateway, an IoT (Internet of Things) device that collects data from different types of sources and communication protocols and sends it to the energy management platform. This technology only allows us to perform cloud computing, if not also the lesser known “fog computing”, which enables a decentralized computing infrastructure in which data, computing, storage, and applications are logically and efficiently distributed between the data source and the cloud, making operations more efficient and reliable.
The Gateway also includes Artificial Intelligence and algorithms that allow it to automatically respond to equipment that is unproductive or consumes energy unnecessarily. This translates into automated actions, such as turning off equipment if necessary or adjusting its operation to optimal conditions.
However, Urrego points out that Azimut Energía is currently working on the integration of ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence technology into its energy efficiency solutions, since this tool will allow finding savings opportunities in customers’ production processes in a matter of minutes, in instead of the complex calculations and current models that lead in the organization.
On the other hand, the manager also highlights the use of the energy management system (EMS), another great example of how the company integrates advanced technologies into its solutions. This technological solution allows companies to remotely monitor and control their energy assets, optimizing energy consumption and reducing operating costs.
The adoption of these technologies is increasingly essential to comply with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, established by the United Nations Assembly. According to Objective 7 of this agenda, energy is sought to be affordable and non-polluting, doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency and increasing international cooperation to facilitate access to research and technology related to clean energy.
It should be remembered that last year a record was broken in world investment in energy transition technologies, after reaching 1.3 trillion dollars, which represented an increase of 19% compared to 2021.according to the most recent Global Landscape of Renewable Energy Finance 2023 report.
In the country, Azimut Energía is already positioned as a technology-based company in the market, and thanks to its focus on the development and implementation of energy efficiency solutions with the help of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud and Big Data, It will be the axis of innovation and sustainability in the coming years.
In a world that is increasingly aware of the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability, Colombian companies are taking important steps towards the adoption of cutting-edge technologies that allow them to improve their processes and reduce their carbon footprint.
