He even said that all Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) would be aimed at driving Tesla’s transformation as “a leader in Artificial Intelligence and robotics.”
However, in the leaked documents it was revealed that Musk diverted 12,000 of those GPUs originally sent to Tesla to X, something that is worrying for Tesla investors, as it is a decision that will delay the development of the autonomous driving systems that have not been achieved.
It should be remembered that shortly after the purchase of Twitter was concentrated, Tesla shareholders were against the operation, arguing that Musk would neglect Tesla’s priority issues by focusing on the social media company.
The company is expected to reveal its first robotaxi at an event in August, but so far Tesla has been the target of criticism, as its autopilot functions have been responsible for hundreds of accidents and some have even resulted in deaths. .
In a response through his X profile, Musk said he made this change because Tesla did not have the capacity to accept the GPU, because the factory in Austin was incomplete and would only be stored.
Therefore, he decided to use them in his startup xAI, which seeks to be a competitor to OpenAI and Google, through generative AI functions within the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
In fact, last month it was reported that this company had managed to raise $6 billion from investors that will be used to bring xAI’s first products to market, build advanced infrastructure, and accelerate research and development of future technologies.
In this regard, Musk said he planned to build a supercomputer dubbed a “computing gigafactory” to support the development of xAI and that it would be “at least four times the size of the largest GPU clusters that exist today.”
