Argentina will begin its electoral calendar on August 12 with primaries of the political parties for the general elections on October 22, where the President of the Republic, the mayor of Buenos Aires and 21 governors will be elected.
In addition, 130 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 senators, mayors, legislators and municipal councilors will also be renewed. An election that can totally change the political map of the country and its projection towards foreign relations.
In the midst of strong controversies and crossing statements, the candidates are presenting their proposals and a very close election is expected in the midst of a deep economic crisis and insecurity with the increase in delinquency and crimes.
Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, mayor of Buenos Aires and candidate for president for Together for Change, affirms that it is difficult to fight against the mistrust of the population.
“We have to fight against the disenchantment of the people, because when you have 100% inflation, when people are afraid to go out on the streets due to insecurity, when you have 40% poverty, there is a fed up with the entire system,” he declared. .
The economist Javier Milei, candidate for the presidency for Avanza Libertad, is the great surprise of the election, and manages to unite from the Republican Party those who are angry with politics as well as independents.
“Let people choose which system they want, it doesn’t matter to me. I feel (that) in the second round I beat everyone, let them cheat as much as they want. I don’t mind. I am against the political caste. Guys who do politics and do people harm,” Milei said.
A candidate with a lot of political experience emerges from Peronism, Daniel Scioli, current ambassador to Brazil and presidential candidate for the Front for Victory.
“I hope that the Argentine people take advantage of this possibility, because what is once again under discussion is the adjustment shock or productive investment, and I believe that the solution comes from there,” Scioli proposed.
There is also a woman of character and with a tough speech who seeks to win followers. She is Patricia Bullrich, former Minister of Security and candidate for the Republican Proposal, (PRO), a center-right alliance founded by former President Mauricio Macri.
She says that “the big mistake is having doubled the State and there are more poor people because the country keeps them private. There are more and more taxes, the companies leave the country, they attack the one that produces and we are increasingly poorer”.
However, despite the problems facing the country, President Alberto Fernández is seeking re-election and announced it to Spanish television.
“If there is something that happens to us Peronists, it is that we never give up, they killed us a thousand times, they persecuted us, they disappeared us, they overthrew us over and over again, we don’t know about giving up.”
Argentina will have a very troubled 2023 because there could be a resounding change of course from December, according to opinion polls.
