Egypt imposes an entry visa on Sudanese in the middle of the war for security reasons

June 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Egypt has announced that it will impose an entry visa into the country on the Sudanese population fleeing the war, but it has qualified that this is a decision taken for security reasons and that it in no way intends to limit the reception of the population.

In a statement published this past Saturday, the Ministry explains that the decision is given to prevent “the increase in illegal activities” and that it is a mere “regulatory procedure based on the distribution of automatic visas to deal with these crimes.” according to the ministerial spokesman, Ahmed abu Zeid.

The spokesman adds that “the Egyptian consulates in Sudan already have the necessary technology to apply this procedure”, aimed at preventing the dissemination of forged documents by individuals and groups operating on the Sudanese side of the border and taking advantage of the people who want to enter Egypt”.

The Egyptian Government recalls that the country has already welcomed 200,000 Sudanese since the outbreak of fighting on April 15 between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (FSR) and that in no way “this measure is intended to limit the number of arrivals of Sudanese citizens”, according to the Egyptian newspaper ‘The Egypt Independent’.
