Edmundo González denounces systematic attack by the Maduro government

The former opposition presidential candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, published a letter this Thursday in which he denounces that a prosecutor from the Venezuelan Public Ministry had sent Interpol a request to ratify a red alert request against him, which he considered a new attack by Chavismo. .

“It is evident that this new and systematic attack is due to our work abroad. “We are carrying the message, about the indisputable triumph of the desire for change of Venezuelans, the violations of rights and the next actions, to all decision-making bodies in the world,” he wrote in his account on X.

“The will of the Venezuelan people is not only recognized by everyone, but will also be respected. We are working to make this happen,” he continued.

In the letter dated October 24, Interpol ratifies a request for a red alert against him for the crimes of “usurpation of functions, forging of a public document, conspiracy, ignorance of State institutions, complicity in the use of violent acts.” against public peace, dissemination of false information ignoring electoral results to cause anxiety in the population,” among others.

The 75-year-old former presidential candidate, who has met in recent weeks with European prime ministers and foreign ministers in several cities, has been in exile in Spain since the beginning of September, after having signed, according to him under duress, a document to guarantee his departure. from Venezuela.

The government He has denied having pressured him to sign the document.

González Urrutia has assured that hopes to return to Venezuela with the aim of assuming the presidency next January 10a scenario that has been ruled out by the government since, in fact, Maduro, proclaimed winner of the elections for a third term, has already received an invitation from the ruling Parliament to be sworn in in 2025.

Part of the international community has ruled out recognizing Maduro as president-elect until “verifiable” results are demonstrated. Senates of countries such as Spain and Colombia have urged their governments to recognize González Urrutia as president-elect.

More than three months after the election, the National Electoral Council (CNE) has not published the disaggregated results, amid complaints of fraud by the opposition, which published the minutes kept by its table witnesses and which give González Urrutia as the winner. .
