Ecuadorian President Noboa will attend Donald Trump's inauguration

The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, will travel to Washington to attend the inauguration of the elected president of the United States on January 20, in a pause in the re-election campaign that Noboa is carrying out for the South American country.

The participation of the Ecuadorian leader was confirmed by the official account of the Presidency of Ecuador in X.

“The attendance of the Head of State reaffirms the commitment of New Ecuador in strengthening bilateral relations between both nations,” says the brief statement, replicated by Noboa on his page on the same social network, formerly Twitter.

The Ecuadorian president had already congratulated Trump after his victory in the US elections last November, ensuring that “the future seems bright for the Latin American continent” in this new era.

Noboa resumed his activities as head of government this weekend after the murder of a mayor in a town in the south of the countryan incident that highlights the wave of violence suffered by the nation, where in 2024 some 6,964 violent deaths and a growing number of kidnappings, assaults and other crimes were recorded.

The president temporarily entrusted the Ecuadorian leadership to interim vice president Cynthia Natalie Gellibert, so she can dedicate herself to campaigning for the presidential elections on February 9.

Elected in 2023 to finish his predecessor’s term, the young politician claims that his policies have reduced violence in the country, which experienced a sharp rise in crime after the COVID-19 pandemic. But some Ecuadorians and rights groups have denounced what they see as military overreach and rights violations.
