Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa began an official visit to the capital of Peru on Thursday, where he will meet with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte and sign a joint declaration with ministers from both countries.
This is the second official visit by a foreign president to Peru during Boluarte’s administration of less than two years. The first was made in 2023 by then Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso (2021-2023) in a Peruvian area near the border.
According to authorities from both countries, the visit seeks to strengthen a work plan on 49 topics that include security, energy, infrastructure, connectivity, tourism, mining and the environment.
Both countries have common problems, including drug trafficking, illegal mining, migrant trafficking and smuggling. They have a common border of 1,529 kilometers, most of which is in the Amazon.
