The Ecuadorian aeronautical authority has ordered the temporary closure of operations at the Ecuadorian José Joaquín de Olmedo airport in Guayaquil after an incident with shots fired at a small plane during the night of Wednesday.
The mishap at the air terminal – according to local media – forced the authorities to suspend flights to that destination and delay the scheduled departures of all ships.
The aeronautical authorities reported that the shooting at a small plane that was transporting valuable merchandise forced the closure of the airport.
The events would have occurred in another nearby air terminal, in Santa Rosa, province of El Oro, when the plane was intercepted by unknown persons who tried to thwart takeoff; However, the aircraft managed to take off and arrived in Guayaquil where it reported damage from the gunshots.
The three occupants of the plane were unharmed, but there were at least 10 bullet holes in the fuselage of the plane belonging to the West Pacific Flight company.
The Guayaquil airport has not officially reported the incident.
