The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will launch on Monday, July 10, at 11:00 Chilean time (UTC/GMT-4), the annual report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2023which provides an overview of the global and regional evolution of FDI and proposes recommendations so that these flows contribute to the productive development processes of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The main conclusions of the document will be announced by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, in a hybrid (face-to-face and virtual) press conference held from Santiago, Chile.
The first chapter of the publication details the amounts of foreign direct investment (FDI) received by each country and subregion in 2022, and analyzes the main trends. It also reports on the behavior of Latin American transnational companies, known as trans-Latinas.
The second chapter examines the role of foreign direct investment in non-renewable energy, and the position of Latin America and the Caribbean in a context of concerted efforts at the international level to rapidly mitigate climate change and discourage investment in the sector. of hydrocarbons.
Finally, in the third chapter, FDI in renewable energies is analyzed and strategies are suggested to promote the energy transition in the region.
