The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present its annual report (flagship) next Tuesday, November 12. Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024: challenges of non-contributory social protection to advance towards inclusive social developmentwhich includes the latest available data on poverty, income inequality and social spending in the region. The central theme this year is non-contributory social protection.
The main conclusions of the four-chapter document will be announced by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, in a hybrid press conference (in-person and virtual) scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (UTC/GMT-3) from Santiago de Chile.
Chapter I of the Social Panorama presents the evolution of poverty and income inequality within the framework of the development crisis in which the region is immersed.
Chapter II, meanwhile, analyzes the challenges and opportunities of non-contributory social protection systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Chapter III of the publication addresses the centrality of social protection in the context of the current care crisis and the trend towards population aging, while chapter IV examines the links between institutions and social spending in the region.
