The session is the most important biennial meeting of ECLAC, as it provides an appropriate forum for analyzing issues relevant to the development of the countries of the region and examining the progress of the Commission’s activities.
It also enables the governments of the member States to learn, through examination of the Secretariat’s report on activities, about the work carried out by ECLAC in the past year and to define, through approval of the work programme and the calendar of conferences, the mandates that will guide the Commission’s future work.
On this occasion, the Executive Secretary will present the document ¨Latin America and the Caribbean facing development traps: essential transformations and how to manage them¨which analyses the current situation in the region and proposes how to develop public strategies in four key areas: productive development, inequality and social inclusion, sustainability and financing for development.
