The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), through the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES), participated in the interregional meeting “Open America”, which was held from September 26 to 29, 2022 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and which was inaugurated by President Luis Abinader and the Executive Director of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Sanjay Pradhan, among other authorities.
The meeting, in which more than 600 people from 28 countries participated, included the presentation of more than 214 exhibitors. It was organized by the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity of the Dominican Republic, the Organization of American States (OAS), the Open Government Partnership (OGP), the ICT Chamber and the Latin American Open Data Initiative ( ILDA), and combined the Regional Meeting of the Alliance for Open Government with the Abrelatam-ConDatos initiative.
The objective of the event was the exchange and interaction between various actors of the ecosystem to work together for a more open, inclusive and transparent America, with strong and participatory democracies, which develop in a sustainable manner and have a strong commitment in the fight against corruption.
ECLAC took part in the panel on Data for sustainable development, in which the participants discussed the role of the participation of civil society and communities to have inclusive data, identifying what mechanisms and commitments are required for monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The panel also addressed how to identify the main advances and challenges in the disaggregation and reporting of data on sustainable development.
Likewise, ECLAC/ILPES moderated the panel Using OGP to implement the Escazú Agreement, which aimed to explore challenges and opportunities to take advantage of the synergy between the Open Government Partnership platform and the implementation of the Agreement from the perspective of civil society, governments and parliamentarians.
