ECLAC participates in the I International Congress on Integration and Development

The first International Congress on Integration and Development – CID 2023, organized by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, through the Ministry of Human Development and Habitat, from May 22 to 24, 2023, highlighted the work being carried out in different parts of the world to favor the implementation of social policies that promote the social and urban integration of vulnerable neighborhoods, and the development of informal productive sectors to integrate them into the formal economic system. The event was attended by officials from the city government and the national government, actors from the public and private sectors, representatives of international organizations, universities and other civil society actors working on the matter.

Bruno Lana, economic affairs officer of ECLAC’s Division for Sustainable Development and Human Settlements, participated in the panel “Socio-urban Integration / Environmental Sustainability: Facing Climate Change from Integration Processes”, moderated by Clara Muzzio, Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene of the City of Buenos Aires. The panel also included the participation of Carolina Perez Guzman, in charge of material cycle management and flow analysis at Kolibri.

In his presentation, the ECLAC official commented on the slow progress and the unavailability of complete information for monitoring Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Make cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable). In addition, he presented ECLAC’s vision on sustainable housing and highlighted the importance of urban mobility as a social policy integrated into city planning.

The program of the event included territorial visits to four popular neighborhoods of the City of Buenos Aires (Barrio Mugica, Playón de Chacarita, Barrio Rodrigo Bueno and Barrio 20), where representative social housing and labor integration projects are being implemented.
