ECLAC participates in the first face-to-face meeting of the Community of Practice "Sustainable Urban Mobility Platform in Latin America"

The first face-to-face meeting of the Community of Practice “Sustainable Urban Mobility Platform in Latin America” It was held between March 27 and 29, in Rio de Janeiro. ECLAC was represented by Bruno Lana, economic affairs officer of the Human Settlements Unit of the DDSAH.

The Community of Practice was created within the framework of the EUROCLIMA program to promote collaboration, synergies, knowledge exchange and capacity building between key actors and institutions for the implementation of climate actions in the transport sector. The face-to-face meeting brought together the institutions that make up the community with the aim of collaboratively building the restructuring of the governance scheme and the work plan for the coming years.

The executing agencies of the EUROCLIMA program were present: GIZ, AFD and ECLAC; the allied institutions SLOCAT, Despacio and Asociación Sustentar; and counterparts of the EUROCLIMA program. (national governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia, municipal governments of Curridabat – Costa Rica, Córdoba – Argentina and La Paz – Bolivia).

The activities of the meeting made it possible to analyze the results achieved by the community and reflect on the group’s potential, in order to guide future actions that contribute to strengthening cooperation in promoting sustainable mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean. The axes of work identified were: strategic dialogues, replicable actions, capacity development and transformative communication.

During the meeting, ECLAC reaffirmed its commitment to promote sustainable mobility, considered one of the fundamental sectors of a Big Push for Sustainability. ECLAC’s regional leadership is linked to the objectives of the community, to strengthen the exchange of practices and collaboration. Currently, urban mobility is the central theme of the Inclusive, Sustainable and Intelligent Cities Project, of the ECLAC-BMZ/giz cooperation programme.
