ECLAC participates in the closing roundtable of the OECD initiative on Global Value Chains, Transformation of Production and Development

The 22nd Plenary Meeting of the OECD Initiative for Policy Dialogue on Global Value Chains, Production Transformation and Development took place on 3 and 4 July. The event, organised with the support of the Regional Government of the Azores (Portugal), was held in a hybrid format on the island of Terceira, Azores, Portugal.

In this context, Marco Llinás, Director of the Productive and Business Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), participated in the closing panel, providing valuable perspectives on the new vision of productive development policies for Latin America and the Caribbean that the entity has been promoting.

During his speech, Llinás highlighted the scenario of low growth, stagnation in productivity and strong heterogeneity that characterizes the region, underlining the need for a new understanding of the scope of productive development policies. Additionally, the director stressed that on September 5, ECLAC will be launching the “Panorama of Productive Development Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean,” which will not only analyze the situation in the region in this area, but will also propose recommendations to scale up and improve these efforts.

The OECD Initiative is a global platform for policy dialogue and knowledge exchange among countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. It aims to improve evidence and define policy guidelines that support the transformation of production and sustainable and inclusive participation in local, regional and global markets. In addition, the Initiative helps countries realize their visions of economic transformation by conducting national and regional Production Transformation Policy Reviews (PTPRs).

This effort seeks to assist policymakers in using global knowledge and experience to develop solutions tailored to their specific contexts.
